Witnessing Help

We all have sinned, sin must be judged, but Jesus died to take our judgement.

Start the conversation:

  • What do you think the purpose of life is?

  • Have you ever heard how you can know God personally?

  • Do you ever go to church?

  • Do you know why Jesus died on the cross?

  • Do you know how to have eternal life?

  • Where do people go when they die?

  • What do you think is the purpose of life?

  • Who do you think the man Jesus was?

  • Are you certain that you’ll go to heaven?

  • What is your religious background?

Transition: Can I tell you what the Bible says?

  1. God loves you and created you to know Him personally. (John 3:16)

  2. But all of us have sinned, and sin separates us from God. (Rom 3:23)

Explain:

“Some people think that they are “good” because they’re not as bad as murderers or thieves. But the Bible says that we all have sinned. And if we’ve broken even just one of God’s laws, we are guilty of breaking all of them. (James 2:10)

“Some think that their “good works” will earn them access to heaven, but no amount of good works would be enough. If we’re honest we know that we’re just not good enough.”

Help establish that they have sinned by kindly asking revealing questions:

Example:

“I’m not perfect. I’ve done some wrong things. Have you done anything you shouldn’t have?”

  1. Jesus died to take our punishment, so we wouldn’t have to live separated from God.

He took upon Himself the punishment for our wrongdoing. (Gal 3:13)

But then Jesus rose from the dead. Many people witnessed His resurrection (1 Cor 15:3-9).

And since He rose, we can trust that we will one day rise too, and we’ll live with Him in Heaven for eternity.

  1. Trusting in Jesus and His sacrifice is the only way we can be forgiven of sin and enter Heaven. (Rom 6:23)

John 14:6 Jesus said, “I am the Way the Truth and the Life, no one comes to the Father (Heaven) except through Me.”

  1. To accept this offer, we must individually receive Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior.

It’s important to make it clear that a decision must be made. It’s not enough to just know some facts about Jesus, they must decide to receive Him.

Sinner’s Prayer example:

“Dear Lord Jesus, I know that I am a sinner, please forgive me of my sins. I believe You died for my sins and that you rose from the dead. I turn from my sins and invite You to come into my heart and life. I want to trust and follow You as my Lord and Savior. I forgive those who have hurt me, just as you have forgiven me. In Jesus name, amen.”

Follow up! Sharing the gospel with someone is only the first step. Follow up is the next step. You can lead them into a lifestyle of living for Christ. Ask them for some contact information.

Starting the conversation with a friend:

“Hey, I’ve never shared this part of my life with you before. Would you mind if I share with you why I’m a Christian?”

“Hey, I know we’ve been friends a while, but can I tell you what Jesus has done for me in my life?

“Hey, I know this is random coming from me, but I’ve experienced something I want to tell you about. Can I tell you why Jesus died on the cross?”
